Personal injuries can profoundly and permanently impact an individual's life, with “unexpected financial responsibilities [having] the potential to throw a lengthy shadow, affecting one's life both emotionally and financially,” according to Disability Help. While medical expenses are often the most visible and immediate costs associated with such injuries, numerous hidden costs can significantly affect a person's financial, emotional, and social well-being.

The primary purpose of the workers’ compensation system is to offer benefits to workers who sustain injuries while performing their job duties. Although some occupations may not be as physically demanding as others, they can still result in severe injuries such as back injuries and broken bones.

Common injuries experienced by doctors is not a topic that is discussed often, but the fact is that doctors are susceptible to a number of injuries from work as well as day-to-day life. Doctors are human after all, and therefore are just as likely to deal with illnesses, injuries, and more. In some cases, doctors will even continue to work rather than taking the necessary time off to recover.

The workers’ compensation community accepts and expects that injured workers in the state of Florida do not get to choose which doctors will treat them for their on-the-job injuries. However, when someone gets injured on the job, they are often frustrated by their lack of choice over who is going to treat them for their injuries. 

Workers’ compensation in Florida provides two categories of benefits: Indemnity and medical. Within the medical benefit category, injured workers are governed by the limitations set forth in Florida Statute 440.
